Story

How We Started

Carework began in 2018 when our founder, Rachel Gartner, was working as a recruiter for a multi-location home care agency in Florida. As a former CNA and HHA, Rachel knew firsthand how hard it was to find - and keep - great caregivers. So, she built a better system.

Her data-driven approach to recruitment transformed hiring outcomes across her region. When other agencies started asking for help, Rachel launched what was originally called Strategic Healthcare Solutions — now known as Carework.

In 2019, Ember Steen joined the team, bringing the operational excellence needed to scale Carework’s systems, grow our impact, and keep service quality at the center of everything we do.

Since then, Carework has helped home care agencies across the country hire over 25,000 caregivers, all while earning a reputation for having a phenomenal team clients love to work with.

A Mission That Moves With Us

As military spouses, Rachel and Ember knew how difficult it was to find meaningful, flexible work that could move with you. So, they built Carework with remote work in mind and hired a team of mission-driven people, many of them fellow military spouses, who wanted to do impactful work from wherever they were.​
